The Vitamin D3 and K2 Combo I’ve Taken for Years

Vitamin D is the one supplement I’ve never stopped buying. It started after a blood test came back low, and honestly it just never left the rotation. A few years in I added K2, which is the part most people skip.

Why the two belong together

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. That’s the whole reason people take it. The catch is that absorbing more calcium doesn’t tell your body where to put it.

That’s K2’s job. It helps steer calcium into your bones instead of letting it settle in soft tissue and arteries. You can take D on its own and be fine, but K2 is cheap, and pairing them just makes sense to me.

How I actually take it

I’ve bought them both ways: two separate bottles, and a single softgel that combines them. If you’re starting out, get the combined one. It’s one less thing to remember in the morning.

On dose, here’s my honest approach. I stay in the 5,000 to 10,000 IU range for D3 and drop lower in summer when I’m outside more. I am not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice. If you don’t know your levels, a vitamin D blood test is cheap and takes the guessing out of it. D is fat-soluble, so it’s worth not overdoing.

The picks I keep buying

Bronson Vitamin K2 (MK7) + D3, 5,000 IU (my top pick)

Bronson Vitamin K2 MK-7 and D3 5000 IU capsules bottle

This is the one I actually reach for. It solves the whole D3-plus-K2 pairing in a single softgel, the 5,000 IU dose is a sensible daily amount, and it’s usually the best value on the shelf.

Size: 60 capsules

My take: Right dose, both nutrients, and cheap. If you buy one thing here, buy this.

NOW Vitamin D-3, 10,000 IU (when you want higher-dose D3 on its own)

NOW Foods Vitamin D-3 10,000 IU softgels bottle

The high-dose standalone D3 I’ve come back to for years. Good if you already get K2 elsewhere, or you’d rather take a stronger dose a few times a week than a smaller one daily.

Size: 120 softgels

My take: I lean on this one in winter and drop lower in summer when I’m outside more.

Solaray Vitamin D-3 + K-2 (a solid second brand to compare)

Solaray Vitamin D3 and K2 vegcaps bottle

Same D3-plus-K2 idea in a veggie capsule, and an easy one to find. Good if you want to compare a second brand.

Size: 120 vegcaps

My take: Veg-cap option and a bigger count, so it lasts longer if you take it daily.

Quick questions

Do I really need K2 with my D3?
You don’t strictly need it, but it’s inexpensive and pairs logically with D. I’d rather take both.

One combined bottle or two separate?
Combined for simplicity. Separate only if you want to fine-tune each dose.

This is my personal routine, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before starting a new supplement, especially if you take blood thinners, since K2 can interact with them.

About Alex Anderson

I got tired of reading ingredient labels and finding seed oils, BPA, and endocrine disruptors in everything I brought into my home. So I started this site to share what I actually buy, cook with, clean with, and use day to day. Most of those products link out to Amazon. Using those links costs you nothing (Amazon sometimes has a coupon clipped on the product page), and the small commission helps cover the hosting bill. No sponsors, no brand deals. Just real products I keep in my own kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and pantry.
